Neil King : St Gatien Racing

I was brought up in a farming family near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.  I started riding at the age of ten following the Pony Club/Hunting route then progressing to Point-to-Pointing. On leaving school I spent a year at agricultural college before working in Point-to-Point yards during the winter, spending the summers riding out in Newmarket for Harry Thomson Jones and Mark Tompkins.

I then spent two years as Pupil Assitant to Nicky Henderson at Windsor House in Lambourn.  During Mr Henderson's quieter summers I rode out at Herringswell Bloodstock Centre where Flat horses are prepared to go into training and worked for a National Hunt Trainer in America. On leaving Mr Henderson's I started my own Point-to-Point and Hunting livery yard, which I ran successfully for twelve years.  In my time I trained over fifty Point-to-Point and Hunter Chase winners including two trebles (including training and riding a treble at Cottenham) and a double.

In 2002 I took the big step in realising my ambition to train under rules in purchasing the Middle and Lower yards of St Gatien Stables, Newmarket. The Jockey Club granted my full dual purpose Trainer's Licence in August 2003. Although I concentrate my efforts on the National Hunt side of racing, we also have a very good strike rate on the flat.
