racing Groom/ Part-time Gamekeeper

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a  Racing Groom/ part-time gamekeeper here at Upper Herdswick Farm from July 2019 onward. This role is quite diverse as the right applicant must be able to undertake yard work and ride out, as well as having an interest in the required game-keeping duties. Some game-keeping experience, full UK driving licence, firearms licences and a shotgun certificate are preferable but essential attributes. On site accommodation available if required.


An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a part of our friendly and enthusiastic team at Ridgeway Racing.

Neil King requires a competent and experienced horse person to fulfil the role of Head Person.

In order to manage our team of horses and staff effectively and efficiently, the successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and equine knowledge, and complete tasks to a high standard, paying attention to detail. It is also crucial for applicants to be capable of working as part of a team and taking sole charge, when necessary.  The ability to ride to a good standard is essential as this role involves riding out up to 3 lots per day riding work.  Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, but not essential.  This full-time role, which includes a weekend rota, offers a competitive salary and accommodation may be available if required.
